After many delays, we finally made it to Cambodia. Here is a quick summary of our attempt to leave Holland for Bangkok and then Phnom Penh. The original (if I can even use that term any more) departure date of Thursday fell through which I think we learned only half way through that day. Finally we receive an email saying we’ll leave Friday night at 8pm, but are given no airline information. So Friday comes and it’s almost 5pm when we need to head to the airport and we still have no information. Ahhh!!! I called my professor and then the consultant. Finally we receive an email that we don’t in fact have a flight for that day, but rather will go Saturday. He will send info soon! Aaahhh!!!! Eventually, we learn via a phone call that our flight is at 2.45 the next day.

Ed. Note: The following post is very long and detailed. If you have a hard time reading, or get bored easily, or heard this in person, you may want to skip it.
With the holidays behind us, and a couple of weeks to cool off, I can now write about our journey to (and from) the U.S. for Christmas and New Year’s. And what an ordeal that was.
Staci & I take the train to the airport, get checked in and grab something to eat before our long day of traveling. We find a spot at the gate and relax while waiting to board. (This would be the last bit of serenity for the next couple of days.) Things are a little behind due to a snow storm and freeze moving through northern Europe, but nothing too bad (so we thought.) After ~45min delay, we finally get boarded and depart.

In keeping up with our jet-setting ways, Staci & I headed out of the country again to catch a concert the night before the Ohio State/Michigan game. Turns out Amsterdam (and The Netherlands) is a pretty boring place. Ok, not really, but you’d think so with how often we seem to be doing fun stuff elsewhere. This time the fun thing was heading to Antwerp, Belgium to see Kaiser Chiefs and Silversun Pickups with, who else, Jon & CJ.

The weekend of Nov 2-4, Jon, CJ, Staci & I went to London so I could get my passport stamped outside of the Schengen Zone so I could remain in The Netherlands (and the EU) as a legal visitor. I had to go outside of the EU because of the Schengen Agreement, which essentially removed the borders of the ratifying member countries so people traveling between those countries can do so without needing visas and having their travel documentation/passport checked everytime they cross into another country, which an be pretty frequently when you consider that even the biggest countries in the European Union are smaller than Texas.
